Clapping is a universal sign of approval, but when do babies clap? Find out how to help encourage your little one to learn this new skill below.
When do babies start clapping?
Babies usually learn how to start clapping by the age of 9 months. That cute applause and excitement is a fun new skill to watch your little one learn.
How to teach baby to clap their hands
- learn by example
- using a song
- word association
Learning by example
Babies learn by example. Start clapping your hands more often in front of them.
Using a song
For my kids, I would sing them the "if you're happy and you know it song". As the song goes "if you're happy and you know it clap your hands". Then, I would clap my hands.
Adding a song element is another great way to get baby excited about learning a new skill.
Word Association
Pick a word, mine was "Yay!" Anytime I used that word or others did, I would clap.
Soon they will start remembering the word yay with clapping.
