    What causes diaper blowouts?

    • Baby's diaper is the wrong size.
    • Baby's position when going.
    • How full the diaper was before baby went.
    • Baby might have a tummy bug which is causing a lot of diarrhea.

    How to prevent diaper leaks

    1. Fresh diaper before carseat or stroller

Before you put baby in the carseat or stroller, make sure they have a fresh diaper. Diaper blowouts happen so much more often when baby is in this position, so plan ahead!

    2. Right size diaper

Make sure baby is wearing the right size of diapers. I know the feeling all too well of trying to use up the last few diapers in a package before moving to the next size. While this might save you a little bit, in the long run you are going to be doing a lot more laundry.

    3. When baby is sick, change diapers more often

If your little one gets a tummy bug that causes a lot of diarrhea, make sure to check and change diapers more frequently.

My daughter had so many blowouts one week when she had a tummy bug and it was all because it was so watery.

    4. Change diaper right away when baby is in the high chair

Meal time is hectic enough, we know, but how baby is sitting in a high chair will force everything right up the back. If you hear the telltale signs of baby going, change them right away!

    Diaper Blowout FAQ

    What causes diaper blowouts?

There are a few things that can cause blowouts including using a diaper that is too small or a diaper that is too big. Another reason is not changing the diaper right away (especially in a carseat or high chair).

How many diaper blowouts are normal?

Blowouts are normal, and sometimes it's unavoidable. There are a lot of things you can do to prevent them, but ultimately things just happen.

Does it matter which brand of diaper for blowouts?

No, every brand from Pampers to Luvs will have blowouts. It's best to make sure you are using the right size, giving baby a fresh diaper before putting them in a carseat, and keeping an eye on how full the diaper is.
